Ages have passed since the last time the Chromaticity people lived in a colorless world. Though none of them have ever seen their vivid land in gray, stories in their most vast library teach about the suffering their ancestors once had to endure. The ancients speak of one day noticing ominous darkness crawling in, a force unknown by their people. As it moved in, everything it touched turned to gray and grew lifeless. The darkness remained for months, and without any color to feed their souls, many of them fell ill from its power.

 

But the ancients left more than a story behind, they left a secret: a magic potion. In their desperate search to restore color, they tried anything and everything to revive their city’s life. Eventually, they discovered that the crystalline rocks that filled the mountaintops were the answer to all their problems. When harvested, the crystals can be ground into a powder that if mixed with water create magic powerful enough to color the entire city. The ancients vowed to protect future generations and spent years perfecting the best methods for maintaining a color-rich world.

 

Today the Chromaticity people work tirelessly to keep the rich chromas that sustain their lives. Every day, they harvest these crystals, hoping that they will never see a day so dull as their ancestors.

 

Yet, today brings a storm on the horizon. Once again, the darkness has returned to absorb the color from their great city. It is only a matter of hours before the entire city will be consumed by its magnitude. At sunrise, they are already up and harvesting crystals to prepare for the gloomy fate their people will meet for the first time in centuries.
